TU YOUYOU

Hi again readers!

This time, I am going to speak about a person who is very important for the actual humanity. In ICT classes, we are seeing the different Nobel Prize Winners of different years, and I have chosen one of this year, that is the Nobel Prize in physiology and medicine. The main reason is because I like this two sciences, because the prize is very actual and because her investigation saved millions of lives. The winners name is Tu Youyou, and she won "for her discoveries concerning a novel therapy against Malaria".

Now I am going to explain yo a little bit of her life, and also the investigation of malaria.

She attended Xiaoshi Middle School for junior high school and the first year of high school, before transferring to Ningbo Middle School in 1948. From 1951 to 1955, she attended Peking University Medical School / Beijing Medical College. Tu studied at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and graduated in 1955. Later, she was trained for two and a half years in traditional Chinese medicine.

After graduation, Tu worked at the Academy of Chinese Medicine in Beijing. She was promoted to a Researcher in 1980 shortly after the Chinese economic reform began in 1978. In 2001 she was promoted to academic advisor for doctoral candidates. Currently she is the Chief Scientist in the Academy.

Tu started her malaria research in China when the Cultural Revolution was in progress. In early 1969, she was appointed head of the project, named Project 523 research group at her institute. She collected 2000 candidate recipes, ancient texts, and folk remedies for possible leads for her research. By 1971, her team had made 380 extracts from 200 herbs, and discovered the extracts from qinghao looked particularly promising in dramatically inhibiting Plasmodium growth in animals. Tu found the way to extract it and her innovations boosted potency and slashed toxicity of this extract. In 1972, she and her colleagues obtained the pure substance and named it qinghaosu , or artemisinin as it is commonly called in the west, which has saved millions of lives, especially in the developing world. She also studied the chemical structure and pharmacology of artemisinin. Tu's group first determined the chemical structure of artemisinin. In 1973, she wanted to confirm the carbonyl group in the artemisinin molecule, therefore she accidentally synthesized dihydroartemisinin. For her work, she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine on 5 October 2015.

Social Websites

Hi friends!

This is my second article since I started in this new world of Blogger. In the first one, I talked you about my experiences travelling around the world and places I want to visit in a future... but in this one, I am going to write you about social websites.

There are different social websites like: Twitter, Instagram, Facebook...

To start with, this sites have some advantages which makes their use funnier and more comfortable. One of them, is that we can socialize with  people of all the world chatting, and like this, make "friends", or communicate with your family. Also, we can share or public a notice, a photo... in real time, and show it to our followers and friends. And the last one, is that you can take information of what is happening in the world at the moment.

However, social websites also have some disadvantages. People can you deceive creating false accounts, and sometimes is very dangerous. Another is that, we can suffer cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place using electronic technology, and that is most common in teenagers of 12-16 years approximately. A lot of kids suffer this type of bullyi
ng nowadays, and the best way to solve this problem is telling to our parents or teachers. To finish with this, say that social websites can take us time to do other things that are more important or "useful", like do sport, stay with your friends and family, study etc.

Secondly, I am going to explain you the different meanings between a real friend (traditional friend), or a friend of a social website. A traditional friend is a friend  that you have confidence and you can count with him or her. For example, when you have a problem or something else. Also to do plans together...

On the contrary, a friend in a social website, is a friend that you can see and comment each other your publications, photos etc. But normally, it is not a relationship of real friends.

About the privacy of these websites, I have to say that isn't the best privacy but not the worst too. You can put them in a private way, that is, only the people or "friends" that you want can see and comment your publications. When you have to create a account, they don’t ask you a lot of information, only with putting your name, surname, one gmail and the password is enough, and from my point of view is simple and effective. The only advice that I give you is to put a difficult password, combinating the most letters and numbers as you can.

Finally, if a have to make a suggestion to these site owners, is to control and report more, offensive and ugly comments or messages, and also, to take off the false accounts that have people.
